In the old liturgical year, today was the Feast Day of Adam and Eve.. One of the prayers in the Mass referred to Holy Week with the quoting of “O happy fault, O necessary sin of Adam,” was repeated today and echoed in the Exsultet.
The liturgy for December 24th and the Liturgy for Easter linked the reason for Christ’s Birth, His Passion and Death.
O truly necessary sin of Adam,
destroyed completely by the Death of Christ!
O happy fault
that earned for us so great, so glorious a Redeemer!
We have lost this with the vigil Masses for Christmas. This evening is no longer a dark night of waiting for the Lord to come, traditionally, in the middle of the night.
I shall be in a mini-retreat tomorrow, so no post
.Please pray for my spiritual director, his family and one of his brothers who died suddenly, shopping in a store, on Tuesday.
Death and Life, Life and Death, the victory is ours only in Christ.
